Posted by David on Apr 1, '07 1:49 AM for everyone We had the 2007 Philippine blog awards last night and I would to say it here I didn’t win. From the very start, I actually thought someone else will. The category I was bracketed in was “socio-political” and I expected that the winner is likely going to be purely “political.” Well, that’s what really happened. Mine is really more of “political economy” focused largely on capturing the subtle transformation of the Philippines brought about by the forces of globalization.
The main criteria for judging are content, design, and mileage (hits). Mileage is my Achilles’ heel. Who really wants to read boring subjects like political economy of globalization? Ideally, blog posts should be short (150-300 words) and crisp. Mine is usually 700 to a thousand words. But I will maintain that kind of blogging for it gives me more leeway to express my thoughts. I’m happy with that and only a busier schedule would change that approach.
The winner for the socio-political (The Philippine Commentary) of course certainly deserves the award. Unfortunately, Dean Bocobo was not even there to receive it. But his kind of political blogging really hits hard and I’m even one of his frequent visitors. Congrats to Dean!
But I was happy I attended that event, for several reasons. First, I met Sasha Manuel (a multiply contact) personally during the night and shook her hand. Second, I met Sonnie, a fellow finalist and another Multiply contact, and we had some initial talks about a possible blogging project. And third, I won gift certificates for four boxes of Crispy Crème donuts during the raffle. I hate donuts but I’ll pass it on to office mates who are not afraid to get diabetes. That would make them smile and I’ll be happier.
 | Like the real Krispy Kreme donuts?
Man, take it easy on those. Or you'll get into a diabetic coma. |
 | yup! i wont even touch theme. haha! |
 | Ha ha ha.. t'was a night of networking, project building and connecting beyond comments and link backs in our blog.
|
 | Dave that you were even a finalist makes you a winner. Congratulations! |
 | hey, keep your blogs long, they way they are. that's my english 101 reviewer, remember? tee...hee...hee! congratulations on the donut win. making it to the finals is a feat all by itself. =) |
 | Thanks! Twas great to meet you, too. (wish I wasn't too busy, so, I could've talked to you --- why didn't you go to the after party?) And it IS something that you are one of the finalists of the PBA. Congratulations! (for the Krispy Kreme doughnuts, too! -->Me, envious<-- ) I met Sonnie, too, I think. Hehe. |

 | hmmmm.... donuts are perfect with coffee when brownies or cakes are unavailable. :-) |
 | awwwwww donuts!!!!!!!!!! yummy! dont forget your diet tho!! heheheheh lol |
 | You mean, you didn't see me when I was up there behind the podium? Darnit. I think I'm invisible. Waaah. ;-) Yea. It's sad that people couldn't sit in just one (HUGE) table so that we all can, at least, "see" each other no? |
 | kudos still to you, dave! :) to be a finalist is already a feat in itself :)
as for the donuts, diabetes galore nga yun! =P hehehehe! |
 | Krispy cremes jumped the ocean? Damn, those things reached a fanatical fever here a few years ago. By the time they got to the west coast they fizzled though. As far as I can tell they were popular because they were so light, which really means you are getting screwed (paying a hyped price for air and unhealthy flour). But sharing the wealth and some recognition is definitely a healthy endeavor! |
 | i guess there's already a franchize here. |
 | yep, one in megamall and one in the fort :) |
